We had the pleasure of working with Marko Sagadin who gave us his time to inform us on the successes and achievements made by the Slovenia Open Division to date.
For the Slovenia Open Division, the European Ultimate Championships 2023 represents the biggest tournament the nation’s team will attend this year. Working hard in preparation for the event, they plan on showcasing the best of Slovenian Ultimate to the world and creating a spectacle for all to enjoy.
A notable moment for all in the Slovenian Ultimate scene was its revival last October. During the peak years of the global pandemic with lockdowns and procedures in place for the protection of all, 2020 to 2022 saw many of the older ultimate players in Slovenia depart from the sport. Instead, these players took on new responsibilities within their careers and personal lives, leaving the younger generation to their own devices. While still training and attending tournaments to continue improving their skills, there was very little happening on a European level.
Matic Kuselj decided to take matters into their own hands and drive motivation within the community again to what it once was before. Joined by Marko Sagadin, the two invited all Ultimate players across Slovenia to accompany them on a special mission – to train hard together and work towards competing at the World Ultimate and Guts Championships 2024. Pivotal to this aspiration will be the team’s preparations and performance at the European Ultimate Championships 2023 in sealing the deal for what is to come for the future of Slovenia Ultimate on an international level.
The Nation’s squad anticipate and are preparing for some very intense games, using these months leading up to the EUC to build on their strengths and minimise any team weaknesses. The management team are met with reassuring confidence at squad meetups with strategies devised and executed to the highest degree. Each strategy created is adapted in order to enable each player to finesse their role outside of group sessions and best prepare them for their journey to the Emerald Isle.
Flooding the gates of Limerick alongside the Slovenians will be the most elite players and teams from all across Europe with the goal of fighting for the championship title. The Slovenian Open Team thrive at the thought of this challenge and most look forward to working as a team in facing this rivalry.
