Austria Women’s – Nation Spotlight

We had the pleasure of working with Cilla Rottensteiner who gave us their time to inform us on the successes and achievements made by the Austrian Women’s Division to date.

The Austrian Women’s team, a perfect blend of experience and youthful cleverness, is eager to shake up the European Ultimate scene with their skills, and infectious enthusiasm. This fresh mix of experienced players and young talents is ready to make their mark on the European stage. While they have not identified any specific goals for the European Ultimate Championships 2023, they are hungry for intense games and thrilling matchups. With immense determination, these women are here to challenge the status quo and show the world what Austrian Women’s Ultimate is all about.

Preparations for EUC 2023 started early for Austria’s women’s team, with the introduction of a new coaching team in 2020. This was a defining moment for the Women’s division in Austria as not only did their new coaches introduce a new playing style, but they also fostered connections among players beyond teams and age divisions. Coming from outside the Austrian Ultimate scene, these coaches brought new perspectives and encouraged the team to break old habits. They paved the way for the birth of a new adult team and a new U24 team, rejuvenating the women’s ultimate landscape in Austria.

Numerous women’s events brought players of all ages together, emphasising connection and camaraderie. The tryouts in October 2022 were conducted in two stages, allowing the coaches to select the best roster for the tournament. Since March 2023, the team of 23 players has been practicing relentlessly, braving wintery rain and even surviving the occasional player ending up in the wrong city for a training camp! These challenges only fuelled their determination to elevate their game on the road to Sunny, Sunny Limerick – where the weather matches the warmth of the locals’ hearts! They look forward to fine-tuning their skills at upcoming tournaments like Tom’s Tourney and Windmill, with a final training camp in June before their Irish adventure begins.

The team eagerly awaits their accommodation on the tournament grounds which promise to be a cozy and delightful stay for all teams! Beyond the comforts of their accommodations, they are excited to witness the growth and development of national teams since Györ, and they’re thrilled to see how Austria’s women’s team will carve their place in the final standings.

With a speaker in hand, you can find this team ready to blast a pump-up song that will ignite the fire within each player. For Austria’s women’s team, the song of choice to get their spirits soaring is none other than DeLynx’s wild mix of all-time favourites from the 00s to 10s, with a sprinkle of German, English, and even French rap. It’s a trashy music lover’s dream, and it’s sure to get their adrenaline pumping and their feet moving.
